Museum Excursions

Winslow TripThree or four times a year, the Verde Historical Society sponsors day trips and some overnight trips to various points of interest around the state.  These excursions have proven very popular, thanks to the organizational skills of Museum board member, Sandie Nevel, a professional driver and expert tour leader.

Sandie NevelThe trips are reasonably priced and all-inclusive: transportation by luxury motor coach, meals, entrance fees and tours, and accommodations when applicable.  Sandie always researches the trips thoroughly, guaranteeing a memorable and enjoyable experience, with some very special touches.  (eg. When a group visited the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Sandie arranged to have some of the original Harvey Girls talk to the group.) Past trips have included visits to museums and historical sights in Prescott, Flagstaff, Kingman (Route 66), the Phoenix area, Florence, Superior, Vulture Mine, Camp Navajo and Fort Tuthill Military Museum, and overnighters to Zion and Bryce National Parks in Utah.  This past June, Sandie took a group to visit  some of the historical and scenic highlights of Strawberry, Pine, Payson, with a BBQ lunch at Tonto Natural Bridge, and capping off the day with a light dinner at the landmark Strawberry Lodge.  In September, Sandie led a 3-day trip to  southeastern Arizona, headquartering in Bisbee's renowned Copper Queen Hotel.  Recent tours included the Rembrandt Show at the Phoenix Art Museum, a 10-day trip to Branson and another day trip to see the Titanic Exhibit in Phoenix.
